Freelance Communications Professional – Dark Horse Communications (August 2004 – Present)
President and Owner of Dark Horse Communications. Projects have included developing and implementing web sites for businesses, managing media campaigns and publicity generation, and creating promotional marketing materials. Clients have included state house and senate candidates, county and city level campaigns, as well as businesses and business professionals.
Assistant to the Director of Communications – Kansas Department of Social & Rehabilitation Services (May – August 2007)
Internship duties include drafting of agency press releases, organizing press conferences, managing media contacts, researching and writing text for publications, writing SRS newsletter stories, compiling and editing information for video project productions, and assistance with other special projects.
Moore for Congress – Field Director (June – November 2006)
Responsible for the planning and execution of the public and private political events for the Moore for Congress 2006 re-election campaign. Coordinated and managed over forty total interns and volunteers. Specific responsibilities include the following planning and executing debate rallies, parades, yard signs and other special events; purchasing, organizing, and distributing campaign materials; coordinating events in concert with other state campaigns and organizations to maximize GOTV efforts; and the recruitment, training and management of campaign volunteers and interns.
Contract Public Relations and Media Research Assistant – Morningstar Communications (April 2005)
Composed and delivered media releases and promotional pitches for Morningstar accounts. Additional tasks included creative editorial planning and matching the editorial profiles of target media outlets with client accounts. Composed and sent successful releases for consumer and business-to-business accounts in a timely and professional manner.
Public Relations/Media Research Specialist – Spread the News Public Relations (April 2001 – August 2002)
Aided in composing and reviewing media releases and promotional pitches for the Spread The News client base. Additional tasks included media marketing research done by matching the editorial profile of respective media outlets with the profile of Spread The News PR clientele.
